Table & chairs at The Bridge Inn.

Situated on a site beside the River Bure that has served sailors, smugglers, travellers and the villagers of Acle for hundreds of years, the current building is a largely 18thCentury former farmhouse. Retaining the traditional vibe of a family-run business, The Acle Bridge Inn today is a welcoming riverside pub and restaurant.

Combining the reassuringly traditional with occasional contemporary notes, the restaurant at The Bridge Inn is an ideal venue for family meals, Sunday lunches or for grabbing a great pub lunch when visiting the Norfolk Broads.

The  Menu (see SAMPLE MENU) offers a wide choice, including pub classics, fish dishes, salads and lighter bites for lunch. Vegetarians won’t go hungry and a children’s menu is available (view SAMPLE CHILDREN’S MENU). Comfort food is definitely the order of the day, as is good value with daily specials and regular special offers.

The Acle Bridge Inn has two bars each offering a wide selection of draught lagers, Suffolk Cider and Ales from Norfolk and Suffolk and has recently been awarded the Cask Marque Plaque for their Ale (signifying excellence in the service of cask ale).

Wine-lovers will not be disappointed by a concise, but varied wine list with 6 wines by the glass and many priced under £19 a bottle.

For those travelling the Broads by boat, the Inn has 10 moorings directly outside with an electric hook up point, which are free throughout the day (£4 per night overnight – however this fee is refundable against your main meal eaten at the Bridge Inn. Moorings are free overnight between November and March).

Children will enjoy an especially designed outside play area.

There is free Wi-Fi throughout the Inn.

Inside the Olive Branch. Retro style clock and ornaments inside the Olive Branch Coffee Shop.

Found in the Norfolk Broads village of Tunstead, just 2 ½ miles from Wroxham and Hoveton, the Olive Branch Coffee Shop is the perfect stop off for lunch or a sweet treat when exploring the area.

Intimate and traditional inside with distinct ‘retro’ elements (extending to the menu – see below), the Olive Branch Coffee Shop offers locally sourced and homemade delights to eat in or take away.

Jacket potatoes, filled baguettes, soup and salads make the perfect lunch, while the retro-feel ‘basket meals’ (Chicken and Chips, Scampi and Chips…) will transport you back to the times when food ‘in a basket’ was a common and popular item on pub menus everywhere. Wonderfully, the taste and quality of the food inside these particular baskets is a far cry from the slightly questionable basket-based offerings of yore, bringing these dishes into the 21st Century. Marvellous.

If it’s an afternoon treat you’re after, the Olive Branch Coffee Shop does a mean afternoon tea, with a positively devilish line in homemade cakes and pastries. Why not try the Gallon teapot? Extreme tea enjoyment at its best.

Open Tues – Friday 9am-4pm, Sat & Sun 10am-4pm.

Closed Mondays.

Fish main from the Olive Branch. Delicious desserts from the Olive Branch Bar & Restaurant.

Situated in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, the Olive Branch was once known as The Horse and Groom public house. New owners were careful to ensure that their refurbished bar/restaurant blended usefully and sympathetically with the surrounding village community so that, like a good village pub, the Olive Branch would play a crucial role in village community life.

Smart and welcoming with gentle contemporary leanings inside, the Olive Branch Bar & Restaurant is fine dining with a relaxed and non-pretentious atmosphere. Priding itself on making the most of the plethora of fresh, good quality local produce on its doorstep, food is creative, delicious and beautifully presented. Menus change daily, with a specials board available.

Chef Laurent Joerger was classically trained in France, but, along with his family, has now wholeheartedly settled in Norfolk. Passionate about offering an eating experience worth savouring for all, some of his dishes inevitably have a French twist from time to time…

There are A la Carte options for both lunch and dinner that include the manner of Coquille St Jacques (Seared King Scallops and King Prawns with Duchesse Potato Gratin), Chef’s Bouillabaisse (Rich Lobster stock generously garnished with King Prawns, Salmon, Cod and Scallops served with Rouille and Garlic Croute) or Supreme of Chicken wrapped in Serrano Ham, stuffed with Norfolk Dapple, Sautee Lyonaise Potatoes, Fine Beans and Mushroom Sauce.

The non-A la Carte lunch and dinner menus consist of equally mouthwatering starters and mains, of a slightly more traditional ‘pub food’ variety – Homemade Beef Burger, Bangers with Bubble and Squeak, and Fish and Chips.

There is at least one vegetarian option on all the menus. Other dietary requirements can be met – just ask.

At the bar you’ll find a selection of speciality beers, alongside a formidable assortment of wines to accompany your meal.

As well as using local suppliers, the Olive Branch makes many of its own offerings on site, including pâté and bread.

Sunday Lunch (2 courses £14.50, 3 courses £17) consists of a good variety of options from the traditional roast (Beef, Lamb, Pork…) to fish and veggie options.

Restaurant opening times:

Tues-Sunday Lunch 11.30am-2.30pm.

Evening Tue-Sat 5pm-11.30pm (closed Sunday evening).

Closed Mondays.

Menu of the day (Daily Set Menu) – 2 courses £10.50, 3 courses £14.50).

Dining table at The Greyhound.

Read our blog entry about The Greyhound Inn’s recent celebration: Party like its 1926.

The Greyhound is a lovely traditional pub and eating house that is bursting with character inside and out.

Owned by Tony Woodman and Debi Key for some sixteen years, it has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and is perfectly suited to families and larger groups. Fundamentally, Tony and Debbi are passionate about running a high quality, thriving Village Pub, which is evident from the huge involvement that The Greyhound has with the nearby community and Nature Reserve at Hickling.

Food-wise, you’ll find a great selection of classic pub favourites, fish dishes and choices from the grill across an extensive restaurant menu that includes options for vegetarians and children. A Bar Snacks menu includes lighter bites such as sandwiches and jacket potatoes. As a general recommendation, we have heard that Debi’s homemade Steak & Kidney Pie is well worth trying.

Throughout the summer, Guest Chef ‘Colin’ takes over Mon-Thur lunchtimes and Thursday evenings with his own special menu.

Open everyday 12Noon until late.

Food Served eves Mon-Weds 6.30-9pm, lunchtimes & evenings Fri-Sun from 12.15-2.15pm for lunch, 6.30-9pm for dinner.
