Map of Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden.

In the heart of the Norfolk broads, and with a host of accolades, including Sustainable Tourism Winner 2009, Green Tourism Gold and the EDP Tourism in Norfolk Awards Winner 2009, Fairhaven is a green gem of a visitor attraction.

Entirely organically managed, with 3 ½ miles of woodland pathways and trails and the UK’s finest collection of Candelabra Primula’s, it is accessible throughout and the perfect antidote to modern life.

Ample parking, an award-winning eco-Tearoom, plant sales and a well-stocked gift shop can be found alongside the green and pleasant wonderland that await you.

Get up close to ancient history with The King Oak. Said to be almost 1000 years old, this magnificent tree would have been but a sapling at the time of the Battle of Hastings in 1066. As well as having a good few tales to tell (could trees speak), this Oak is apparently home to a family of ducks, a Tawny Owl, several different types of fungi and thousands of insects. Amazing.

Continue along paths, across bridges, through hidden glades and wide open areas perfect for picnic-ing as you spot ducks, geese, dragonflies, butterflies and probably hundreds of beautiful wildflowers. There is a Children’s Nature Trail throughout Fairhaven that gently encourages children to learn more about the diverse flora and fauna within.

There are boat trips on the private broad and to the historic ruins of St Benet’s Abbey from April to October as well as Canoe Hire. In fact, with an eclectic programme of regular events, from Dogs Shows and Festivals to Ghost Walks and Concerts, there are many reasons to visit Fairhaven throughout the year. And since it’s natural décor alters with each season as new plant life grows up or recedes away, changing the vista in the most awesome way, it really is an attraction for all ages, worth visiting all year round.
